Gearing up for the 4th is an exciting time, especially in Los Angeles! The nation is preparing to celebrate America’s independence and one notable difference this year will be fewer fireworks; well, professional ones at least. Here is some local news to help you navigate the holiday with a BANG!
According to the LA Times, there will be fewer professional fireworks this year in Los Angeles due to newly mandated environmental rules aimed at keeping plastics and pollutants out of our streams and oceans.
The catalyst for the new permit came from a federal lawsuit brought by environmental activists against Long Beach’s Big Bang on the Bay, which claimed that the show had violated the Clean Water Act by discharging pollutants into Alamitos Bay. Although a judge didn’t rule in favor of the environmental group, evidence from the trial found at least one instance of “fireworks-related pollutants,” pushing the regional water board to improve regulation of these shows over waterways.

Two Redondo Beach fireworks displays have been canceled (King Harbor & Riviera). Fortunately, there are seven shows in the process of applying for the permits. Those shows include locations in Long Beach, San Pedro, and Marina Del Rey. More on those below!
